About the Project
The opportunity to travel to Costa Rica to create collaborative art was an amazing adventure. Through the guidance of Israel Mesen (coordinator of the work in Costa Rica), we were able to virtually meet with teachers in the schools to learn about their surroundings and inspiration for artwork in an unfamiliar place. Students in the Total Experience Learning® Academy (5th grade students in the Reading School District) helped to fabricate and research the birds and animals featured in the murals.
Our bags were packed with art materials as well as clothes as we set off for Costa Rica. We kept on schedule and completed three murals in three days at two elementary schools. The children at the schools helped install the work and also virtually met the students in Reading, PA.
