A donated box of colorful Fiestaware became the starting point for Hidden Faces, an energetic mosaic inspired by the abstract figures of Jean Dubuffet. Curving lines weave through broken ceramic and tile, revealing faces that seem to appear and disappear as you look.

About the Project
Students in the Wyomissing Area Summer STEAM Academy explored a looser approach to mosaic-making than the carefully cut glass used in many other projects. They smashed plates and commercial tile into irregular pieces, then assembled the fragments like an open-ended puzzle, choosing shapes by eye and allowing the materials themselves to influence the final design.
